Information about the Village of Croft

Croft is located approximately 8 miles South West of Leicester in the East Midlands Region of England just off the B4114 Leicester - Coventry Road. The population in 1999 was just over 1,600 persons. The area of the Parish is 365 hectares (900 acres).

The village is a mixture of residential properties, industrials units and has a large granite quarry. Croft has a Church of England Primary School with the Community Centre, a 14th Century Church, St. Michaels, a Public House, The Heathcote Arms (which has a skittle alley), a hairdressers, shops and Post Office.

The River Soar flows through the village with Croft Pastures riverside Nature Reserve (SSSI). Croft Hill (128m) is an interesting geological as well as historical feature, the quarry to the rear is reputed to have been Roman in origin. The Woodland Trust has 10 acres of Glebe Land, working with the Parish Council to preserve this green area of the village. There are a number of footpaths and bridleways to explore around the village.

There are many community activities and social events held in Croft, to name a few the British Legion, W.I.,The Wednesday Club, Flower Guild and the Happy Circle. Croft Sportsground is the home of Croft Cricket Club, Youth Club and a number of teams use the football pitch. Also for the younger members of the village there is a playground known as Croft Fun Park on The Bridle.

On the edge of the village is the allotment site, for keen gardeners, in which many of the items grown are shown in the annual village garden show, which usually takes place in August.
