B4114 Guthlaxton Gap to Sharnford - Route Safety Scheme

The Parish Council has been consulted by the Leicestershire County Council on the proposed "Route safety scheme". The Scheme follows comprehensive analysis of data and it is hoped that this section of the B4114 will be safer for all users in the future. The works are due be completed by the end of March 2007.

The Scheme was welcomed by the Parish Council, however the Parish Council was concerned that certain junctions on the B4114 required considerably more investment than was proposed, especially the Marion's Way junction.

The Parish Council have requested that the Leicestershire County Council consult with Aggregate Industries so that together they can endeavour to produce an improvement to the this particularly hazardous junction.

The Parish Council is well aware through the Parish Plan Exercise of the the public's concern regarding the Marion's Way junction and will continue to campaign for a safer B4114 through the village.

Community Speed Watch Scheme

A small number of pilot Community Speed Watch Schemes run by the Leicestershire County Council, have now been completed. They have been well received and they have had an immediate impact on the speed and the number of vehicles speeding in the pilot areas.

The Parish Council has expressed an interest in this scheme and feels that there is a problem of speeding vehicles in the village and that this scheme could help to reduce both speeding and the number of speeding vehicles.

Before the Parish Council can be selected to be included in the project by the County Council, there is a requirement to demonstrate the community's commitment to the scheme by obtaining 200 signatures. There must also be a minimum of 6 volunteers to take part as Community Speed Watch Volunteers.

Great news! We have collected the 200 signatures required and have also recruited 6 volunteers to train as Community Speed Watch Volunteers. The Parish Council's application for training has now been submitted (May). This application has now been approved (June) and the first training event is scheduled to take place on 17th July at 7.00pm at the Sports Pavilion, Winston Avenue, Croft. If you are interested please come along to this event.

Many residents may have seen (August) the Community Speed Watch Volunteers out on site, recording the speed of passing vehicles. It is hoped that this exercise will change the behaviour of the drivers of speeding vehicles through the village and that they will obey the 30mph speed restrictions that are in force within the village.

Some very excessive speeds have been recorded and it is hoped that these drivers will recognise the potential danger of such speeds within the village, especially to pedestrians and cyclists.

The Parish Council wishes to thank everyone associated with the project and especially to the Community Speed Watch volunteers for their time and effort.
